Even as a long time supporter of the use of educational technology. I'm still surprised at the fast pace with which it is a necessity rather than a source of enrichment activities. Today's students, and even many of the parents, grew up with technology as part of their daily lives, retain certain expectations and assumptions about the way technology is used for learning. Can no longer be settled in the corner the computer classroom to be sporadically used for special activities nor can video be used as a babysitter. Technology should become an integral part of the classroom life.

What students need ?

If it is our task, as educators, to prepare students to become successful members of our society, must then in addition to the traditional knowledge and skills, students now are willing to access, evaluate, analyze, synthesize vast amounts of information. They must have expectional listening skills, can make use of email, understand fundamental operating systems use word processing and other software and use the internet for research.

This need for new challenges place for teachers, especially those who cannot feel so prepared to use technology as their students could be. It's time for educators to overcome the outdated idea that they are experts in educational technology must be before the students are allowed to use it.

Some of the benefits of educational technology

1. Increase interest (eve in rote tasks)
2. Provides a purpose for learning
3. Promotes the perception that all knowledge is related (not isolated bits)
4. Ensures student individuality in learning styles

Educational technology, in the science classroom

Take, for example, the case of physics teacher who neede to configyre some labs fir thermodynamics, but had no money left for supplies or equipment. Because he was lucky enough to have 8 computers in his class, he was able to use them to make the labs. The students were sent to science software the use of the school and a web site. The site has some great simulations that this teacher feels more interactive and that do a better job to show the physics behind the topic than traditional labs.

Because science learning requires a large amount of critical analysis, particularly using educational technology in the science classroom justified. Learning to solve complex problems requires a different approach than learning isolated skills instruction and information necessary for standardized testing purposes. For example, while doing internet research, a student must evaluate an internet source for reliability, accuracy and bias; the same type of information required in science exploration activities.

In order to fully prepare our students "real" life, not only we as educators need to provide them with the content knowledge that they need, but also the ability to:

1. Accurate information of Visual and auditory sources (watch and listen) obtain
2. Developing solutions for problem
3. Displaying originality and problem solving skills in service during the creative process
4. Be team players and good staff
5. Show intercultural awareness
6. Communicate complex ideas effectively

Science Education Technology
I am, like many educational experts, that the use of technology in the classroom is, by far the best way to achieve these lofty goals. Educators must prepare for a future with great technology and they need to keep abreast of change by the adoption of effective strategies that use appropriate technologies.

In the science classroom, we need to do more with technology so that our students are better trained and better able to succeed in life.
